This was a fantastic read. My black friend identifies as republican and I tell him he's not informed enough for me to take seriously and give him reasons as to why he's ignorant every time….

But maybe the fact that he's a huge Michael Jackson fan and Republicans (establish democrats for that matter) obviously are opposed to Michael Jackson's clearly represented personal beliefs can break through the veil of his ignorance… Or idiocy. Probably interchangeable lmao

There is a good change MJ would've been a Republican despite his efforts against climate change, poverty and racism, you realize this, right? Janet is MAGA as well, and they grew up in a very coservative household and basically fundamentally religious. Many Americans are, but even though MJ got kicked out of the JWC he still held a very strong belief.

And the fact that Trump is basically the one politician that always held MJ in high regard counts as well.

This is coming from a Dutch person who would never vote GOP if he was an American and thinks even the Dems are too right wing in the economical sense.

Well I imagined that Michael wouldn't be a republican due to his stances on racism, classism, climate change, etc. I'd believe he'd be intelligent enough to realize that he couldn't stand for what he stood for on those issues and be a republican as currently constituted in the US. The democrats are idiots in a different way way and I don't want to underestimate the cognitive dissonance that religious beliefs can cause.

However, I believe MJ could not be so hypocritical as to make songs like “they don't care about us”, clearly showing some understanding of systemic racism and the insanity of the US war machine, and then identify as republican. Anyone who can identifying as such and say it's on the basis of religion is fake religious and I imagine Janet might be MAGA more because of tax breaks and economic interest than any religious beliefs.

But dogmatic religiously beliefs can, once again, make you clearly a hypocrite and identify with politics and policies that clearly undercut the morals and values that following religion is supposed to infuse a person with.
