Good morn’ or evening, friends. DEF|Y|NE Media has begun a new production: Get Physical. Matthew Allen, DEF|Y|NE Media founder and award-winning music journalist produces and hosts the short-form video series that takes viewers through his ever-growing music collection.
Originating on Matthew’s TikTok page, he uses Get Physical to take viewers on a trip through his life via his music collection, stressing the significance of maintaining a physical music collection. Matthew highlights one album, single, or film in each episode in his personal collection.
Matthew showcases his diverse collection of vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and VHS tapes, from Marvin Gaye and Roberta Flack to Doug E. Fresh and Ron Carter. He offers background on each one; where he acquired each piece, fun factoids, and personal anecdotes that connect the music to his life and memory.
In addition to TikTok, Get Physical is available on Instagram and YouTube and will be posted on this Substack page. The goal of the series is to connect with fellow music collectors, crate diggers, and even casual music lovers who still invest in physical music.
Matthew is adamant about why gathering music in physical form is essential for music lovers; the sound quality is superior to streaming, the internet doesn’t last forever - ask Paramount Global - and you have access to important memories just more clearly when you can hold the music in your hand.
New episodes of Get Physical are posted every three days on Matthew’s TikTok and Instagram. Follow Matthew on Instagram, Twitter (X), and Threads @headphoneaddict, and on TikTok @headphoneaddict1.
